Counselling with a social worker in Canada has many benefits. For example, our training prepares to consider not just the individual; we consider the entire context in which problems occur. Since inequality occurs outside of individual 'pathologies', social workers carefully consider structural oppression as it relates larger issues (i.e. racism, gender violence).

In my practice, it essential to support the whole individual. Moreover, I complete annual training to ensure that I offer evidenced-based approaches for my clients to foster healing within -- often as a result of eternal factors. Therapy, in my view, is absolutely client-centred and genuinely collaborative. My company, See Change Therapy was named so as I genuinely believe that the client has a right understand the tools we are using and that the end goals reflect the desired change of the client.

Many benefit plans include the provision of social work services and so it is well-worth checking with your provider. Importantly, Registered Social Workers in Canada are exempt from collecting GST or HST for treatment of mental health issues.

Welcome!

See Change Therapy is a virtual psychotherapy service based in Coquitlam, BC. With this in mind, I wish to acknowledge the ancestral and unceded territory of the Kwikwetlem First Nation.

Whether it’s complex suffering since childhood, a distressing event in the past or a difficult problem in the present, my services are designed to facilitate meaningful change. This starts with getting to know about you, the issues with which you struggle and what you see for yourself in the future. From there, developing a clear plan each session and more broadly, evaluating progress on a routine basis is an essential part of reaching goals. I make it a point to ensure that my clients are fully empowered to make well-informed decisions about their own care.

My personality has often been described as warm, supportive and non-judgmental. It is fitting, then, that I take a strengths-based approach in my work with clients and in fact, this is my starting point with everyone I support. I thoroughly enjoy seeing my clients make positive change in their lives. I really love my work!

Experience & qualifications

I have 12 years of post-graduate social work experience and combined 25 years of front line service as a healthcare professional. Along the way, I’ve had opportunities to earn a diploma in therapeutic recreation, as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees in social work.

I have been trained in a number of evidence-based, trauma-focused therapies and receive frequent clinical consultation to ensure quality services are provided to my clients.

My training & competencies include:
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
  • Prolonged Exposure (PE)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Areas of support include:
  • PTSD
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • childhood abuse
  • low self-esteem
  • intimate partner violence
  • alcohol and substance issues
  • barriers for people with disabilities
  • discrimination experienced by LGBTQ2
  • discrimination experienced by BIPOC
My professional designation

The professional title I use is Registered Clinical Social Worker (‘RCSW’). As as registrant of the BC College of Social Workers, this means that I am authorized to practice in an advanced area of social work. To do so, I have studied for and passed the Association of Social Work Boards Clinical Exam.

Social workers are often included in healthcare benefits plans. However, not all are the same. I encourage you to check with your provider to see if my services are covered. I am able to provide a receipt after sessions which may then be submitted to providers for reimbursement.
